EBN Akron/Canton

In February 2020, the president of Ohio University and founding members of EBN launched the Akron/Canton affiliate.  EBN Akron/Canton is dedicated to fulfilling the EBN mission in our community.  We have, and will continue to, engage alumni, community partners, university leadership, and friends to support our efforts as we plan and host events in support of that mission.

Since our launch, we have hosted and initiated the following:

–  A film screening of Toxic: A Black Woman’s Story, as part of National Prematurity Awareness Month. The film was directed by alumnus Devon Collins, BS, ‘97

–  In partnership with the University, a virtual statewide celebration to commemorate the 170th Anniversary of Sojourner Truth’s historic “Ain’t I a Woman” speech, which she presented in Akron. Several alumni served as keynote speakers for the celebration, including Ohio State Senator Dr. Vernon Sykes, BBA, ’74; Imani Edwards, BA, ’18, Executive Assistant to U.S. HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge; and ODOT Director Jack Marchbanks, PhD, ’18.  This celebration resulted in over $19,000 in private donations to support the Urban Scholarship Endowment.

–  Conversations between Cuyahoga Community College and Ohio University to explore how to better transition community college students to the university.

The EBN Akron/Canton Affiliate meets the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm EST.  Meetings are held virtually.  We welcome individuals to email us at ebnakroncanton@gmail.com to receive a Zoom link to the meeting.  Please note-there will be no meetings in July or December.
